hi, I'm jesse forest.

I live in Boulder,
hang out at Victors & Spoils,
and sometimes rock a six string with the talented Natalie Walker.

I also post photos here
and when a song is stuck in my head, it might wind up here.

  • Is American Idol Manufacturing Daughtry Part II?

American Idol tries to cash in on rocker David Cook, as Idol has seen Daughtry turn into pop-rock music’s prodigal cash cow.

It’s apparent that American Idol has a fault in the cookie cutter formula.  With pop failures such as Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, and Taylor Hicks, Idol is having to create “variety”.  The public doesn’t seem to eat up these sugar cookie performers who lack artistic integrity.

However, lets not forget the “black sheep” contestants.  Bo Bice, Daughtry, and now David Cook are the supposed rebels of their bright eyed opponents. Daughtry is an example that success is not entirely contingent on winning Idol and sugar coated sound.  There was a lot of upheaval when Daughtry dismissed American Idol, it was thought that he was not showing gratitude to those that initially gave him the stage.

            vs

I think that Idol is trying to reclaim a market that they missed before.  The show can claim Clarkson for Top 40, Underwood for Country, and now David Cook for [Pop]Rock.

What’s going to be next?  A lovable middle-american rap star with street cred?
