hi, I'm jesse forest.

I live in Boulder,
hang out at Victors & Spoils,
and sometimes rock a six string with the talented Natalie Walker.

I also post photos here
and when a song is stuck in my head, it might wind up here.

Neato.

This hilarious short, created by TBWA / Chiat / Day and directed by Tom Kuntz.  Do you recall the other ad with the creepy bearded dude in the job interview?  ….memorable, funny, fantastic.

Guest lectures in advertising class are the best….they get me so stoked to break out into the world.

    .

Steve Barry, who graduated from CU’s advertising program, shared some great insights of the advertising world, and his experiences working in account management/client services.

A point that he emphasized was that great campaigns take risks in creativity…and at times, can be back-breaking to convince a client of a creative vision.

When the concept was first pitched to Skittles, the candy company wasn’t so sure about how consumers would react to such an eccentric campaign.  In the end, TBWA / Chiat / Day created something exceptional, that had consumers wanting more.

    .

Steve Barry ended his presentation encouraging students to do these things in school:

    • While you are still at CU …
      • Learn how to present in public…take an acting class.
      • Learn how to read a room, understand your audience.
      • Take notes, be able to write down quickly what everyone is saying.
      • Keep a day planner/calendar, and a to-do list.
      • Write often, even creatively when you can.
      • Never stop being intrigued by things, new things should inspire you.
      • Take classes in art, music, and new media.
